If I remember rightly, Scylla is one of the earlyier weights made in 1978 (selkirk was set up in 77 and they started making weights in October 77 according to Peter Holmes himself).  Peter trained under Paul Ysart and also worked with Colin Terris while he was at Caithness and has made some exceptional weights, like these :)

Guess who's work I collect!

It is certainly not one of the more recent weights: not in any of my catalogues (complete from 1986 onwards).

BTW - to scan all these catalogues for scotlandsglass is "work in progress": should you have any pre-1986 catalogues, and would be willing to let me have them for scanning (return guaranteed!), this would be most welcome!

Hi Ian and Wuff

You may be able to help me !

The attached photo shows a 1985 Selkirk with some unusual facetting. I am trying to establish whether it is original or was done subsequently to hide some damage. Could you check your catalogues around this date to see if it is listed and if so is it plain or facetted or possibly both !

The weight is inscribed Selkirk Glass Scotland 31/100 or 150. There is a top ring of 3 facets carefully positioned so that when you look from overhead the three flowers are in the facets. Then below there is another ring of 3 facets and finally below that yet another ring of three facets.

I cant believe that such intricate facetting was done to hide damage but then again I find it strange that such an unusual facetting pattern was part of the original design.

Hope you can help

Best regards

Derek

I'm afraid - can't help: this weight is no longer depicted in the 1986 or 1987 catalogues - likely was sold out rather quickly.

Ian should be able to help with his 1985 catalogue.
