Glass Identification - Post here for all ID requests > Glass Paperweights
signed studio weight "Peter Sch........" ?
Martyn K:
I hope someone can help me with an ID.
It's fairly clearly signed, though tails off at the end. My best guesses are Peter Schilling or Schelling.
Peter Schelling gets a couple of Google hits from the Corning MOG but appeared to be an engraver? Peter Schilling gets tens of thousands of completely irrelevant hits.
I'm likey reading it all wrong anyway and have run out of ideas....
Liz:
Your paperweight was made by Peter Schiller, from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
His work is shown in Glass Paperweights of the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, # 1626.
Martyn K:
Light speed ID Liz!!! Thanks very much indeed.
A quick search even with the right name has only turned up one vase (apparently from 1984), so I dont feel too bad for not recognising it.... Am I safe to assume he's not a big name on the US studio glass scene?
Liz:
I encountered the same difficulties trying to ID my Schiller weight!
I have only seen two for sale, on EBay...which leads me to believe that Schiller is not one of our more prolific artists. I am interested in learning more about him and his work, should you find anything!
Sue C:
Peter Schiller is mentioned here fourth column along about six names down there is a contact email for the gallery, i dont know if it is the same artist, but i hope it helps.
