Sold as Murano, but...
« on: April 05, 2008, 08:32:35 PM »
I picked up this weight in a local secondhand shop recently. It was labeled (by the shopkeeper) as Murano, but I dunno. To my inexperienced eye, it doesn't have the right look for a Murano weight... and the colors seem a little too bold. The chips seem to be resting on an inner clear. There is a completely transparent plastic decal on the polished base which may have had something printed on it at one time, but now, under both intense white and ultraviolet light, nothing at all is visible. I've discovered that the cross is a variant of what is known as a fusil or cross fusilée, but nothing comes up Googling those combined with "glass" or "Murano".

Any impressions?

I have always known these types of weights to be Japanese.

Yes - Japanese, I have seen numerous samples with Japanese labels.

Most common seems to be the "Lenwile Glass, Ardalt, Japan"
