Large Black and (loads of) Gold vase
« on: April 24, 2008, 08:29:34 PM »
I think this has to be good Murano, it all feels good, well made, beautifully finished,
amazing 3D effect with the gold. Its 10 inches tall, 1.3kg. Very tactile,
the rim, smooth( flame polished?), base nicely finished, no pontil mark, see photo.
It is more beautiful than its photos, i cant believe its a far eastern product!
A little age wear to base, but i would imagine its not that old.
Any views or ideas?

Check out a search of the board for "Nason". Also same search in GlassGallery.
Also David E's page on Nason.

Thanks Kev,
just had a good look through threads, this one is the best,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2811.0.html

I was thinking Nason, the above link shows the difference between Vincenzo Nason, and Chinese Dalian,
Im 99.999% sure mine is Vincenzo Nason ;D

 :hiclp: :hiclp: :hiclp:

Maybe this could be moved to Murano, just for confirmation?
Cheers

Happy with the Nason provenance, :D
small piece copied from David Es site, (hope thats ok?)
'Glass by V.Nason was known for using aventurine. This process involved rolling the molten glass into copper flakes and Nason commonly used 'black' glass. This glass also has a very light clear 'casing' so the copper would always appear to be on the surface, and the surface feels lightly textured'

Im just wondering , looking at the seguso Bunny rabbit in post ,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,4830.0.html

maybe a chance my vase may be Seguso?
its very smooth, highly polished, no texture, and is the Aventurine , Copper, or Gold ? by either maker?
My Aventurine, gives a deep 3D effect in places.
Just a thought.

Im actually 100% sure now, its V Nason, found these examples,
http://www.design-and-arts.com/en/show-products.php?category=15

Theres some ashtrays, with labels, and the same purple colour that mine has on the rim :D
the gold colour is just the same, and im presuming its copper, rather than gold!

Are the Nason pieces always black?  We saw a midnight blue vase with the same overall inclusions today, and a white inner lining. Might it have been Nason or not?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd
