Topic: Possible Sklo Vase - id help needed

Hi there

Anyone have any ideas about the vase I picked up today, It's really heavy with plenty of age wear to the base.
Height is 19.5cm high and 12cm at the base.

Hi,
certainly a Bohemian piece, very similar to Beranek/Skrdlovice stuff, Frantisek Visner maybe circa 1970s

Cant find the same pattern on the above site, or in the Arnoldsche book

You're spot on, of course, Andy - it's a Vízner design for Skrdlovice, vase no.7410 and advertised in Czechoslovak Glass Review in September 1975. You'll see an example in Graham Cooley's 'Hi Sko Lo Sklo' exhibition and the accompanying catalogue - for more information, see www.sklo.co.uk
The colourless part is taller than the others I've seen!

Hi Mark. has Marcus been involved with this? it looks very exciting!! i know he spent a long time researching and had a recent trip to visit some of the designers.
BTW, has anyone heard from Marcus?? he has been a little quiet lately?

He has been away and his book comes out in September. Having learnt Czech and done a lot of research from Czech sources and directly with the people involved, combined with Marcus's academic approach, it will probably be setting a new level in glass writing and publishing.

Marcus has been kind enough to check my research as regards dates and designers on pressed glass (Sklo Union designs), which I am very grateful for. We both agreed that there'd be no point in confusing everything, particularly newcomers to the market, by putting out conflicting information in two different publications.
I quite agree with Frank - Marcus' academic approach, extensive research and personal contacts with many of the designers will lead to a truly ground-breaking, fully detailed book on Sklo Union which will undoubtedly be the only book on the subject that ever needs to be published. I for one can't wait to see it.
Graham Cooley's exhibition and my accompanying catalogue do cover, but don't focus solely on, this area, as Marcus is doing that.
My catalogue is intended as a general introduction to post war mass-produced Czech glass design, and includes over 150 specially commissioned full-colour photographs of hot-worked, cut and engraved, gilded and enamelled and pressed designs. There are also some higher end pieces by the likes of Jirí Harcuba, Pavel Hlava and Lubomír Blecha - hence the 'Hi Sklo Lo Sklo' title. The format is very similar to my previous publication Fat Lava.
