Topic: French lampwork - or Chinese?

This unusual glass item looks to me like one of the 1920s / 30s Chinese products, many of which were 'aquarium' weights, of which the late Bill Gaskell had a nice collection. Any views?

Agreed - its a Chinese aquarium weight - I have several in my eclectic collection! This one has only two birds but they bear a remarkable similarity to the ones in the weight you spotted!!!

Aren't they painted sulphides? Don't look like lampwork and I am sure there was a previous discussion about the material used in these :huh:

if you look on page 25 of paperweights from gt britain by john simmoms, there one there and it was by salvador or paul, looks like it was owned by the late colin terris

The one shown by John Simmonds in his book has been confirmed by John to be misattributed. It is a Chinese item with painted sulphide ducks - and yes, they look "chalky". Shape and faceting of the weight are a good match to the one queried.
