Harlequin "Jester" Sculpture, any thoughts?
« on: August 04, 2005, 08:01:11 AM »
Hello Everyone!
I had bought this pieces a bit back, and I bought it wthout knowing anything about it. I dont usually buy figures but took a chance on this one. Thought some of you might have a better idea of what I have. Im stumped by it, as I havent seen a reference for it before.

It has silver and gold flecks, a very hevy and solidd gold pedestal, little black tassels on his knees, and what looks like a big club on his wais. It also has a mask as you can see, and has a red nose or tongue on his face.
Any thoughts would be greatly apperciated!

Javier, I think Harlequin is perhaps a better description? Can't help you with the sculpture though. Certainly unusual.

   Is it too obvious to say he's a Venetian, ready for a masked ball?

Ah, the Venetians do have an annual event where they wear masks, I believe. Alex should be able to confirm what the annual celebration is.

It's Carnival!  It takes place in February each year!   :D

For some pics of this years, see http://www.muranopaperweights.co.uk/venice_carnival.html

And of course Javier's figure is a Harlequin (or Pierot) from the Comedia del Arte!  :D  I should have realised!

Oooooh!  I Just *Love* Venice!  :D

I just had a look around Google for possibilities, and found myself on a Venetian carnival site - apparently you have to wear 'Kinky' costumes...

Sounds like fun!  Now, where's my latex suit?

Hi Javier
Looks a bit like a Bianconi creation in the body, but can't find any of his with a similar base.
If it's carnival time, I'll dig out the gas mask and jack boots, or maybe the diving suit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
