Riihimaki Vase? - unsigned - please help with ID
« on: May 02, 2008, 10:54:07 AM »
As advised by one of the members, i've split my original discussion into individual discussions for each item. Hopefully you can help identify this piece:
A 28 cms tall red cased vase, i think it might be riihimaki - can anyone confirm this?

TIA  :)

I've just spotted my vase, in the quite amazing collection by Robert1960, so on that basis (although mine is red), i'll assume it is Riihimaki. i've only got 15 vases in my collection - but you've certainly set something to aspire to Robert!

Ta,
M

I wonder whether this vase was confirmed as Riihimaki, Riihimaen Lasi Oy?  and if so does anyone know who the designer is please?  I have looked through Designlasi and couldn't find  this shape and it is a bit different to my others by Tamara Aladin.  The rim is ground and polished and is quite a bit thicker.  The colour is standard throughout the vase it's just the photo which makes it appear to get darker nearer the top.

many thanks in advance.

Ah I think I have found the picture of Robert's most amazing collection
and I believe this vase is top left hand.  Thanks Robert for posting your fabulous pictures.
Hope the link works.

Lovely!  I particularly like the shape of the 1472 and the differences between the taller and shorter.
Do you know who my vase was designed by please?  Was it Tamara Aladin?  and is there normally a variance in the rim finish of the vases, with some being fire polished and others being ground and polished?
many thanks

I should think almost certainly Tamara Aladin !
Most rims are flat ground, other than a few lipped that are fire worked (the Sun vases for example)

Thank you Robert  :)

That puts into query two other vases I have then which I thought were Riihimaen Lasi Oy vases (export?) but both of which have fire polished rims.  They are thinner walled than this one as well.
I might need to do some more searching.
Many thanks

I've only had two Riihimaen Lasi Oy vases and they both had fire polished rims...

Fire polished rims are unusual on the majority of the vases from Riihimaki.
