Three Handled Uranium/Cranberry Piece
« on: May 09, 2008, 08:40:33 PM »
Good evening. I picked up this three handled piece today & am wondering what (or if any) purpose the item had? It's 4 3/4" in height with a 3" diameter. I am assuming it's from one of the Bohemian houses, but if anyone has any insight I would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks, Ken

I usually see these referred to as three-handled loving cups. Usually used when friends, etc. will be sharing a drink out of the same cup.

Ken, you have a TYG (pronounced teeg).  here is what wikipedia has to say about it.

I have one of these, also. I have seen maybe a 1/2 doz. from photos belonging to other collectors.  I just had a friend email me a photo the other day of one she found at a big show.

here is a link to a photo of mine.

yes, the generic name is 'three-handled loving cup'.  they started out as being made out of pottery and it is a very old form.  I also think mine is from one of the Bohemian glass houses.

Ken & Dave — I was once told (nothing written, so spelling unknown) that these were called Tugs, for either Three-handled mUG or Triple-handled mUG.   I dismissed this as unlikely, as single-handled mugs were always known here as cans in the glass trade, and tankards to the public in licenced premises.
