opalescent vase w/ threading
« on: May 25, 2008, 12:42:40 AM »
I've had this little vase for some time now, expecting some day to stumble across who made who made it, but no luck. I've convinced myself it's Murano, mainly because of the scalloped gold label with a hint of washed off red remaining.  It's 4" tall, 2" in diameter at the top, looks opalescent with amber threading that starts thickly at the middle of the vase and peters out just as it gets to the base. Flat, polished base with a small mound on the bottom of the inside. Any help much appreciated.

That definitely looks like the label of Archimede Suguso, though admittedly I haven't seen any Seguso quite like this. Can you make out anything on the label?

Thanks, Shannon. I think you may be right about the label. I went back and looked at it under different light conditions. It seems to be have "Made" at the top following the curve of the label, then "in" and "Murano" straight across the middle. That is, just like the Seguso label. There's nothing in Pina with threading like this. But looking at the book, it struck me the vase might be alabastro, not opalescent as I first said. I remember a recent thread about alabaster and opalescent where the participants were equally confused.

Thanks, again.

I find it a little confusing as well, but I know Seguso did plenty of each.   ;)

As I'm now reasonably sure that this is Murano (according to the label), can a moderator move this to the Murano Board?

TIA,

David
