Victorian basket with roses - ID = Davidson 234 basket
« on: June 07, 2008, 04:14:50 PM »
I bought it thinking it might be Sowerby, but now I'm pretty sure it's not. An intricate design (even the bottom is "woven") with a rose on each side made in a four part mould (two long sides and two short sides). 6.25 in (16 cm long) and 4.5 in (11.5 cm) wide. Anyone any idea of who please? (And yes, it's a little sun purpled)

It is a Davidson piece.  Shown as item 234 on page 1 in the compilation of Davidson's Catalogs No. 1 & 2 published by the Pressed Glass Collectors Club.

Oh, thanks Sid. Can I get hold of those? I wouldn't normally associate floral with Davidson

Hi,
The quality of the pressed club reproduction is not that good - think it has been photocopied too many times. The originals are in the V&A art Library in London.

You can take your own photos of the catalogue or if you are lucky you can get 8 pages photocopied at a time.

I say originals but in fact the V&A only have a photocopy of these two catalogues. The copies were donated to the V&A by J Howarth (former Chief Executive of Turnballs and Davidson co-owner) so I assume his family still have the originals.

Regards

Chris
