Murano Millefiori ? number1 (and a caithness diadem)
« on: July 23, 2008, 03:48:12 PM »
Just bought these at auction, a Caithness, Diadem, and a couple of
(murano ?) Millefiori.

first one, large, 4 inches across, flat polished base, bit of age wear, sits
on a gold cushion.
Any good? is it Italian?
 Thx
Andy

PS , friend, Dave has Carlton book on Caithness, he cant find Diadem, is it rare?

Hi Andy

Your two Murano look like perfectly good Murano, but nothing special. I would put them in the £5 - £10 category.

I doubt that any Caithness bubbles / blobs / swirls is rare, but quite a few people must like them - they made plenty. (Oh - they went bust again, didn't they? Maybe people don't really like them...) ;D

The larger weight looks like Fratelli Toso to me. The smaller weight, I don't know what it is. I have a few that are similar: One came bearing a label that read "de Roma".
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.

Thanks all,
i will pop them back into the marketplace, sometime, and keep looking out
for a rare Baccarat or Clichy in the charity shops for 99p!
