Ruby intaglio quilt, but not as we know it Jim
« on: July 26, 2008, 03:25:14 PM »
I can only assume that somebody at Chance was having a go or was thinking aloud on glass! Unless they are not Chance at all!! I have two of these 6-inch dishes. They are quite crudely engraved but they seem to have been flashed with clear or varnished over the ruby. Most odd. The ruby has definitely been cut through. If it's varnish, it hasn't discoloured, although it is coming off in tiny areas in the cuts. Plenty of base wear. Any thoughts anybody?

I had one of these, but I think I gave it to David at Dulwich, were we displayed it as non-Chance.  Compared to the real deal the quality (as you imply) isn't great..also the red is kind of a lighter colour too.
