Desperately wanted this vase, my first post on the GMB referred to a bowl i thought was Monart,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,7853.0.html
found out its called Cellophane glass, and origin is in doubt, Bohemia?  Stourbridge? or ??
The original bowl sits on my Mums window sill, a Xmas Pressie, and is admired by all visitors,
so i saw this vase, identical pattern, and want it for my shelf!
Cant see the shape on Franks page, (although must come from the same origin as many of the photos)
 http://www.ysartglass.com/Ysart/NotYsart.htm
hoping this may be another clue to origins.
Very Thick and heavy 2.8kg! 8 1/8" tall, rim 5 3/4"base 3 5/8" polished pontil mark 1 5/8"
On both bowl and vase, years of age wear to base, confident its circa 1930s,
no doubts that it was made by a Quality Glassmaker!

Frank, does it help, would you like photos?
All suggestions welcome
Andy

The Czech connection seems the most likely but bear in mind that that thread covers two completely different types.

I dubbed this thick stuff cellophane because of the appearance of the transparent colours. I do have some more examples but just no time to add more at the moment. I would like to convert Ysartglass to the same software as my other sites use then it would be a lot easier to add additional examples... again time is the problem. At best I spend 100 hours a week working on the sites and while getting a lot of help these days, not enough with slightly techie skills. Most of the past two weeks has gone on something big that I hope to be announcing in coming weeks, plus doing admin work on the various sites - which often means having to learn new things.

Just for my benefit, next time i need to search for Cellophane glass,
i can find Franks information here,

There is supposed to be an attributed example in the Passau Museum, I could not find it when there and there was no-one knowledgeable to ask... always meant to write to them but the years tick by.

Why it is not Ysart.
1. Colour Palette.
2. Mould blown.
3. Metal.
4. Shape.
5. Finishing.
6. Not Ysart technique.
7. Paul Ysart said it was not.
8. Ian said it was not.
9. Nigel said it was not.
10. Frank... etc.

Why people think it is Monart.
1. Because sellers label it as Monart including 'reliable' auction houses.
2. Because it comes in two colours (This is of course a unique characteristic of Monart and Vasart)
3. Because Monart gets better money.
4. A Glass-maker told them it was.
5. Because it is stated as Monart on 'Is it Whitefriars' along with a rude remark about me  ;D
 ::)

Twenty-five years ago it was Schneider because
1. Because sellers label it as Schneider including 'reliable' auction houses.
2. Because it comes in two colours (This is of course a unique characteristic of Schneider)
3. Because Scheider was well known1 and gets better money.
4. Monart was a complete unknown.

1 Strange that a few years ago many visitors to this board did not know Schneider, but did know Monart.

Good job this one was not listed as a rare retro by a famous 60s designer working in London  ;)

Perhaps I should take Ysartglass down permanently, save me some money.
