Hi,

No, it's not Hadeland. I see your thinking Iain, because of the general similarities of shape and one colour, however the one in the W/f's book has a cut and polished top with no pontil as it was blown using a mould. It is generally used as a floor vase because of its size - 37cm. The Hadeland piece is fire finished with a nice central polished pontil and although a decent size not really best used as a floor vase IMHO - great piece though.

The company I alluded to in the earlier post is, I believe, Swedish. I just wish I could bring it to mind.

Thanks everyone for your help on this one. :hiclp:
Im not disappointed its not Whitefriars, apart from identification  :( thought i had it nailed!
Ive been looking around, there seems to be many companies (Scandinavia and everywhere else)
around 50s 60s that were making similar styles, i will go through more books and websites later,
the Hadeland looked good to me , others ive seen similar so far, if these jog your memory Nigel,
Magnor Norway? Kastrup?

Nice vase for £2  :D
Andy

ps . Is this still Soda glass? In Andy Mcconnells book, he shows examples and says all Soda glass,
what is Soda glass?

Hi,

JONZEN'S - Importers based in the Gamages building, Holborn, of Swedish glass, but naturally enough no name of the maker. Apparently produced in Amethyst, Amber and Emerald.

I believe that the emerald has not been seen, however Blue has. Of course, this will be the point where corrections will come pouring in ;)

Nigel

(Thank you, Christina, for supplying the information.)

Thanks Nigel, and Christina,
Nigel, im a bit confused, is the Swedish one you refer to, from Jonzens, the big one in the
Whitefriars book? with polished top, and no pontil?
Mine is much more like the Hadelands vase, fire polished top, and (almost) central pontil.

Cheers
Andy

Andy,

Yes, the one in the W/f's book. Certainly not you're piece, which I tend to think is much younger.

Similarities in books are all very well, but you mustn't go down the route of thinking something similar is the same. Whilst it may be, it is far more likely, in my experience, that it will turn out wrong. It's all part of the fun of the search - and building up a working knowledge.

Cheers, Nigel

Hi Nigel,  wasn't the importer  based in the Gamages building G.Hardy, and I know of a Jones and Co. who were also importers of Swedish and Italian glass who were based I think in Birmingham.  Jonzens is a new one to me.

John,

No, the information was taken directly from an advert, so NO G&T's involved.

Emmi,

Yes, I am aware of both the names you mention.

I try very hard to be accurate about this sort of information and would not profer it if there was any doubt, especially since I do not subscribe to putting up ideas to be shot down. Often this leads to confusion and inappropriate reporting  - Chinese whispers, if you like  :(   Not good.

Nigel
