Topic: engraved vase signed and dated - possibly Scandi?

this one is well engraved as seen from the pics....signed and dated 1951...or 1959 The signature is difficult to read and have looked at signatures in Czech glass design in an age of diversity and to no avail....looks like ending in kappi....there are 4 letters before kappi

the secound pic has the sinature and so difficult to photograph...taken several but it simply does not show up well.guess i am just not a good picture taker!!

Interesting theme.  The head is quite nicely done.  Those leads draped around his neck are odd - where do they lead?

In your second photo it looks like your camera is focussing on the background.  Are you using the macro setting on your camera (if it has one)?  You might try putting a piece of masking tape temporarily next to the signature to give the camera something less transparent to focus on.  Or you could try setting your camera to take a large, high resolution photo and take it from farther back, then crop it.

Hi Norman,
I would be surprised if this is Czech, gut feeling is Scandinavian, and ****kappi surname endings are not common to Czech, and Slovak regions. More likely to be Swedish or Finnish.

Are the first letters THEO? If so then the engraver could be Theodor Käppi, who worked for Riihimaki, from 1925 to 1939.
Do any of our Scandinavian specialists recognise the vase shape from Designlasin??

ok so under a strong mag glass the signature as...looks like ntti Kippi....definetly not Theo
tried taking all sorts of pics of signature but too much of a glare.

Quite a while since your original post!

I suspect your vase was engraved by Erkki Käppi and likely produced at Oy Kumela glassworks.
