Heavy dark blue pressed glass vase - ID = Ząbkowice
« on: September 04, 2008, 01:17:44 AM »
At first glance this looks like it could be Sklo Union, but....

I've also seen it attributed without proof to Ruda, but it doesn't look as rough as the examples I've seen of theirs, so....

it's probably by someone else entirely, any suggestions where on the globe to start hunting please?

Size: 165mm tall, 100mm top diameter.

There is a different colour of the same vase in GlassGallery (David555's image)
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1981 as mentioned here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2038.msg16755.html#msg16755

A darker grey/green version is also known.  I have one tucked away in a box, I think...

Hmmm any chance of a pic sometime please, Chris?  Perhaps the colour range will help run this mystery to earth.

I have one of these in green and suspect them to be German.  Mark Hill also had one on his stand at the Dulwich Art Glass fair - I discussed it with him and he was of a similar opinion.  These are often mistaken for Sklo Union but Marcus will confirm that they're definitely not.

Hi Pip, Marcus has confirmed privately to me that he believes they are not SU - perhaps when he's less busy he might have thoughts to add here too. :)

Meanwhile thanks for your info - most useful. Any chance of a pic of yours as well please? I'd love to see the colours they came in. So far just blue and green shades, no ambers, reds, purples....?

How often are they seen? Perhaps the dealers amongst us can say if they come across these frequently or rarely. All info will help give us some directions to search in. Thanks again.  8)

Sure thing, I'll get a photo of mine up as soon as I can.  I don't come across these often - I've seen a few (less than 6) on eBay over a period of a year or so and I've only owned one.  I've also only ever seen them in blue and green.

Well, here's mine.

It's just a little darker than yours, Anne, although I think it has a grey tinge.
Perhaps these greens are not deliberately different.  Maybe they're just the result of inconsistent mixes, or each one is coloured individually.

Mine is a very greeny green - like a bottle green - no grey or blue in it at all.  I've been trying to find the photo with no luck - but I'll reshoot it if necessary.
