Can anyone ID this ashtray, Whitefriars?
« on: September 06, 2008, 11:43:27 PM »
Have searched the net to try and find another like this ashtray, but have been unable to find anything like it.
Could it be  by Whitefriars? It's very heavy, and has an opalescent look to it when in the dark, but as soon as light hits it changes to the lime green in the photos.
Brought it as Murano some years back, but don't think it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Great colour, looks Italian, have you tried it under UV light ?

Yeah, I agree with Andy - it looks Italian - and with those colours there's a good chance it'd react wickedly under a UV light.

Have put a UV light on it, it glows a bright orange on the base and also on the rim. I did post in Murano about a year back, but had no replys, so thought I would try here. Its a thick heavy bowl at 5lb.

Lots of discussion on 'orange glow' on search tool above,
i believe its Cadmium Sulphide, or maybe Selenium

Thanks Andy, Hadn't seen the glassyeye site before. Lots of info there and on the link. Would love to be able to find out where this bowl was made.
