« on: September 09, 2008, 09:42:00 AM »
Hi all
Spotted this vase which sort of looks Finnish. Anyone able to identify it please?

TIA

Deb

Could you describe or show the base ?
Size please and how deep is the solid part of the base ?
Any bubbles, folds, irregularities ?
Pete

Apologies - talking on phone at same time.

There was no shot of the base or I'd have included it (Been hanging around here for a while!!)

It is 18 cms tall and with no other attribution sold for $A84 which I thought was a lot for something described as 'Scandinavian style' black or grey glass - seemed darker than it should be.

Other pieces recognisably Riihimaki sold for $30-$45.

I am wondering what I missed.

PS never saw it - only pics - the base looks hollow in the shot looking down into it - might be clearer here on flickr

The rim is unusual and looks nicely finished. If pushed I'd guess German but could be from any European country just about and a few outside Europe too.
Without further details is very hard to tell unless someone happens to know the piece or something very similar. That's why we generally deal with pieces you physically have with you. I could fill the board with pieces I wish I had bought!

Does this mean that the photographs aren't your own?

If this is the case, you'll need permission to use them on this board from the person who took the photographs, otherwise it's a breach of copyright and they're liable to be removed.

As Nic says if you haven't asked permission to post that photo up on the board then you've breached copyright - a link to the actual auction page or to a photograph on a website is the way to do it if the photograph you wish to show isn't yours.

The colour and the top rim finish look very much like that of my two mystery blue vases discussed here:
