Unknown 6" frosted vase, 30s French? ID = Frantisek Halama, Czech
« on: September 13, 2008, 12:40:45 PM »
Hi, can anyone help me to identify this beautiful Frosted vase please.
It was thick with grime when i bought it and depicts a goat on one side and a flying bird on the other. The body is completely frosted (apart from some slightly smooth high points due to wear) and has 4 moulding seams on it. The rim and base are a facet cut and both highly polished. The base has some wear and is unsigned. It is heavy and weighs 1.1kg. I have a good knowledge of glass and it looks of good quality to me. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thx SC

This vase is probably Czechoslovakian, from one of the manufacturers around the Jizera Mountains in the north. Possibly also made after the war by Jablonecke Sklarny.

Marcus

Hi, I can now confirm absolutely that this item was made post-war, and it would appear that the mould was transferred from Ornela Desna, back to the Halama family after 1992. The Halama company was/is? producing this vase using pattern number FH1711.

Marcus

Marcus knows his onions - if that's what he says it is then that's what it is!

Thank you. I am just lucky to have a Halama catalogue, which allowed me to make the ID.
