Clear weight + rock piece inside - ID = Strathearn
« on: October 07, 2008, 03:19:58 AM »
I picked this up at a thrift shop today; although it's very simple, it looks nice... I don't know what to make of it, hope someone can help! The base is smoothly polished, the glass appears to be clear heavy crystal. A single small piece of silverish kind-of-rock inside. Reminds me of the old Baccharat rock-sand paperweight, but this one is definitely modern, judging by the profile. Thanks for sharing info!

Thanks Frank! Happy to know that I have added yet another Strathearn to my collection! I should learn more about these pieces — I recognize the millefiori ones easily, but I know nothing of the others... But I am always somehow drawn to them. Thanks for your help!

An excellent reference for Strathearn weights is the book, Paperweights From Great Britain 1930-2000 by John Simmonds, ISBN 0-7643-1074-7. Copies are often offered on eBay or can be obtained through some of the main paperweight dealers.

And, online, Richard More's web pages are unequalled as a visual reference source.
