HI There

I have just found a very beautiful paperweight, that is signed and numbered. But I cannot read the signature at all. It is also numbered S 62/94, or it could be S 62194. I could not get a better pic of the signature. It sort of looks like I Debt! Does anyone recognise it, please? The numbering looks sort of Kosta/ Scandinavian but I am probably way out there too.

Many thanks in advance
Sue

Don't think there are enough letters for Eickholt - but thanks for trying :)

I have been trying to get a better pic of the signature and eventually covered it in pencil to try and make it stand out. Perhaps this may help someone identify it. Could the surname be Scot or Sebt. The numbers are definitely S.62/94.

Hadn't even seen that as an option but now I look.... it could possibly be. Do the numbers make sense it it does say Italy? Thank you!

Best way to highlight etched / engraved signatures is to dust the surface with talc then wipe the excess off - a method used successfully by various members here.

Thank you for that - what a great idea. I tried it and am almost certainly it does indeed say Italy.

This paperweight is by Marc Kalifa of Maleny in Queensland, in the Sunshine Coast hinterland about 95km north of Brisbane. See the image of a similar weight below (four years earlier than the weight in question, so not surprisingly a little less developed) and the signature from a different item, showing the numbering scheme.

The original poster is located in Australia it seems, thus making an Australian source that more likely.

I've just smashed my new personal best record, set only a couple of hours ago. This solution is being posted 6 years and 66 days after the original query!

LOL - I  did not even remember the paperweight until I looked at the photos -  but it is always good to hear of other art glass/paperweight Aussies and I DO now recall this being especially nice.  Thank you Trevor! And well done for breaking your record  ;D
