AB Gränna Glashytta and Gränna Glasbruk AB
« on: October 14, 2008, 09:34:29 PM »
Are these the same business, perhaps with a change of name at some point?

yes it should not be too difficult to google Gränna which is one of the more active glassworks. Run by master Germano Padoan since 1965.

Googling Granna no problem but proving these company names are one and the same is not.

I would also like to identify the period these labels were used, on figurines that just joined the zoo.

Gränna Glasbruk and Gränna Glashytta are one and the same company.

I have been quietly (surely not, Rosieposie!!) following this thread, and am so pleased to have the answer to this question.
Those of you who have seen the pictures I posted in the Glass Gallery will know I have a great love of Granna Glass (crystal) and am still looking to increase my collection.
So now we have it, they are one and the same company.  Thank you once again inca.  :fwr:
Like Frank, I would still like to know if the different labels have a reason, other than just change for change sake, and do the changes help to date the pieces.  How fortunate that all my pieces have labels.....lucky me. ;D
Rosie.

Thanks Ingela, can you clarify how the alternate names are organised/used? Could they be trademarks, but if so why precede the name on the label with AB (=Limited company).

Quote
BIFIRMAS VERKSAMHET / ÄNDAMÅL
(Gränna Glashytta, Granna Crystal)

Online translators can only cope with VERKSAMHET=Activity

Your labels can be roughly estimated by how they are made (Very roughly 1 & 3 pre 1980, 2 & 4 post 1980) but it would be nicer to get the dates of use tied down. I cannot find a website/email for the company but you could try writing to them with pics of the labels.

However this (http://www.skgorvelte.nl/pages/galerie.htm)...
Quote
Gränna Glasbruk AB. Gränna Glasbruk AB (eerder Gränna Glashytta) is opgericht in 1821 en vervaardigd uitsluitend kristal.
= Gränna Glasbruk AB (earlier Gränna Glashytta) was set up in 1821, made exclusive Lead crystal.

...implies that Glashytta was the name prior to above registration in 1969. So perhaps the first label is 1965-69 (speculation)

The 1821 date throws a spanner in the works although they are not mentioned in a 1907 directory - but it is quite feasible there was a glassworks there prior but totally unrelated except in address

Sorry but I don't know the answer to the above.

ändamål = purpose
bifirma is as far as I know =  secondary trade name

There was previously a glassworks there, Grenna glassworks, and I have the dates as 1821-1824.

The present Gränna glassworks was founded in 1964
Germano Padoan came to Gränna glassworks in August, 1965.

That answers all my questions Ingela, thanks.

Weird that I could not find their website in Google, it could have been offline when I looked as I tried the company names dot se.

The Dutch site doesn't work properly for me in Firefox, I presume it is in importer.
