To identify white milk glass vase - Fentons or not
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:56:11 PM »
An unsigned what I believe to be "Fentons Silver Crest" vase however, unlike my other Fentons SIGNED items, this vase is of a different white being not quite as pristine; rather on the dull side.  My question: is this "Fentons Silver Crest" or some other make depicting Fentons?  Measurements 16.50 x 15 cm.
Thanks "B"

This is indeed a Fenton Silver Crest vase.

We (I say "we" because I am the historian at Fenton) first made Silver Crest in the 1940s, and we continued to make items regularly into the 1980s. The formula for opal glass was changed in the mid-1950s to create a dense opaque white. Items made prior to the change have a translucent quality to them and sometimes an off-white, slightly yellowish cast.

This particular piece was made as the No. 36 Fan Vase, and, after the early 1950s when we introduced a new numbering system, it became the 7357 SC Fan Vase. This piece comes out of the mould round in shape, has the crystal crest applied by a skilled finisher. Then it gets reheated (warmed-in) before another finisher crimps it and uses a former (with a helper wielding wooden buffers) to create the fan shape.
