vase in metal collar with cut out shapes
« on: January 01, 2009, 02:37:40 PM »
Looking for any info on this vase, I would describe it as made in a naive or crude fashion (lovely though) with a wobbly rim, lots of fine bubbles or ash in the glass, rough pontil and crudely punched out burnished metal banding.
A little like (but only a little) Wiktor Berndt's tribal designs.

Forgot to mention size - 13 cm tall and 8 cm diameter.
Many thanks.

This *could* be by Wiktor Berndt for Flygsfors - he certainly designed items like this with the metal additions and the glass bulging through the holes HOWEVER there was also a company in Mexico making similar items (although of a much poorer quality).

Thank you Pip, I would think that Mexican origins might be a better bet, the quality or 'clarity' of the glass would push my thinking in that direction. I have never had the good fortune to handle any of Wiktor Berndt's work so I have little to judge this vase against. I have only had it for a week or two but it is really growing on me, I do like it's naivety.
If any one out there has any of Berndt's Tribal designs it would be interesting to know of the clarity of the glass used.

Another two similar items, the blue bowl looked to me to be from the same source, not so sure about the green mug with possible makers mark. Ring any bells?
