glasstrufflehunter:
I ordered a paperweight button a few weeks ago. I wanted because it looked like a classic paperweight. I was under the impression I was ordering from a Japanese artist but when I got the package it said it had come from Beijing, which added to my general amazement over this fine looking button. With perhaps the exception of the stems the reat of the design elements are very well formed. The berries and pears are two dimensional and it looks like there's a golden outline around the leaves and a subtle iridescent layer above the white ground. On the back is a sturdy brass shank.
I don't think this came from any of glass factories. This looks like an individual artist who perhaps thought his wares might sell better if he said they came from Japan.
I've been waiting to see some real artistry out of China.

I'm fascinated by these buttons. Some of them are amazing works of art and the fact that they are so tiny just adds to my amazement! I've not seen the fruit theme in a button before. Chinese or not, I think you've "truffled" up a very nice treat to add to your collection ;D I'm glad you found a little treasure.
All the best ... Lily

Tiny yes, but upon enlarging the image, I see too many bubbles, striations, separated stems from the leaves. Perhaps better than expected, but still not close to true paperweight art. A good start? Probably. Too bad we don't know the individual glassmaker or factory.
