Need Id on Murano Vase ~ tall, cased, free form
« on: January 14, 2009, 10:46:36 PM »
Hi ~ I am new the site and am requesting your help on a Murano Cased vase that I have.  It is a gorgeous free form vase that stands 15 3/4 inches high, 4 inches at the base, 4 1/4 inches at the top.  Cased ~ blue and white.

Any information that you might be able to provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
~ Jen.

I don't know the vase, but judging from the mouth, I suspect it is not Murano. Did it have a label when you first got it that said Murano on it?

There was no sticker on the base identifying it as Murano; however, the style / color resembles much of what I've seen by Murano in my research.  Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.  If other photos are needed, please advise.
Regards,
~ Jennifer.

I think it's possibly Chinese, see second row middle for some very similar items. Unfortunately there is an awful lot of glass being sold as Murano that's never been any where near Italy or even Europe

Thank you for the info.  I understand that there are Chinese copies; however, is there any way to distinguish the actual Murano from the Chinese copies?  Aside from the removable sticker?  I find it difficult to see any possibilities that this vase is not Murano...the quality is excellent and the lines of color are fabulous...nothing like I've ever seen in a Chinese copy.  If anyone can provide additional information how to distinguish real from copy and any possible value, I would greatly appreciate it.
Regards,
~ Jennifer.

I really doubt that this is Murano, it just doesn't have the right look, not all Chinese glass is poor quality. I also doubt that it's a copy of anything - it's a Chinese original. Not even all the glass sold in Murano was made in Murano. And most definitely much glass sold as Murano is not - there is no way such a small island could make so much glass. What are you using as your source as it being Murano?

I agree with Christine that the vase looks Chinese. Most of the vases that I've seen like this are Chinese. The thin look of the layers at the mouth are one thing that made me question that it was Murano. I looked for a link to your specific vase. I'm glad that Christine found the right link. I looked right over it.

Many time these vases are sold as Murano. Many of the Chinese products are very nice. The only real "problem" with recent glass is that they are produced in large numbers, so will take a long time to be collectible. The nice thing about them is that they can be used without worry. It is nice to have glass that can be enjoyed.

BTW -- I live right up the road from you in San Marcos. Howdy, Neighbor!

I agree it's Chinese - Possibly made for the florist's trade.
