Uranium ? green vase ID: Sowerby F 2583 'Celery Vase'

Uranium (I think) vase (I must get a blacklight!) - glows madly under fluorescent light and sunlight.  No maker's marks. Pressed glass - four part mould. 7" tall. 5" top diameter. Has four squared off feet. Does anyone recognise it please?

Anne, it is Sowerby's Number 2583 - called a "Celery Vase" (that euphemistic term   )

Yours is F 2583. Two other shapes (flared points up and down) were also made. Also supplied with holder and plinth.

Incidentally, our second Sowerby CD-ROM is ready (covers the 1920s through to the 1960s). It includes illustrations of this item in the original Sowerby catalogues. I'll post full details tomorrow.

Wonderful! Thanks Glen, I really appreciate your help with this one. It's a super looking vase, even without the flower holder and plinth.

PS I've added your Sowerby CD's to my "want for my birthday" list... just hope OH is watching the list!

PPS I will add your Sowerby titles to the Glassoholic book list as well. (The Carnival ones are already there.)  8)

Thanks Anne - I'm glad I could help. I'm playing catch-up here (lots of glass to put away - as we took it with us to the Convention for our seminar). But I sneaked away from the chores to have a quick look at the Glass Board and saw your message.

My thanks - and as I currently have my brain in gear and (hopefully) all faculties functioning, may I both compliment and thank you for that excellent feature and all your hard work.

I think it's going to be a never-ending work-in-progress Glen. Every day I seem to find new glass sites so keep adding them in batches. It's amazing how many sites about glass there are out there!  :D

I have quite a collectionof these celery vases by Sowerby. Does anyone know if they are of any value?

Everything has a value to someone I guess. It just depends if someone wants what you have. I paid £1.50 for mine I think.

Hi Anne

£1.50. not very inspiring, not that I would get rid of any of them. The most I have paid was on ebay for £6.99. I should really stop buying them, they are becoming a bit of an obsession. Thanks for reply.

Adding a pic of the same vase in amber for reference. Yesterday I saw, but didn't buy, the same vase in clear glass. The green is far nicer than the clear.
