Small Bowl Murano?
« on: January 21, 2009, 01:23:42 AM »
I broke another of my rules and bought this bowl (ashtray). I didnt pay a lot of money for it and it will be used as a ladle holder by the cooktop.

I do like the oro effect in this one and the colour is outstanding. The finish reminds me a bit of the Seguso peice I bought last year but I dont think it is one of his pieces. It is not 1st class condition but I still like it.

Any ideas about this one would be appreciated.

Seguso was going to be my guess. It's very nice. PLEASE don't use it on the cooktop to hold ladles!! Ladles will scratch it, and the temperature changes may crack it.

Thanks Shannon - If it turns out to be a Seguso piece then it will be 'saved' from the ladle job. If not that is where it is headed.

I always assume that glass that is not in 1st class condition isnt worth anything. Is this assumption correct?

Well i watched an Amen glass with a piece the size of a large thumbnail missing and a crack going from there to the stem fetch £18,000 plus commission at Sothebys a few years ago , the lady next to me said she would have binned it  , mind you a good one fetched £80,000 in New York .

Yes, I agree, do NOT use it as a ladle holder! I have one like it (same color but not the pulled pieces, it is just a bowl shape) with the bubbly outside (I think it is pulegoso) and research indicates it is Seguso. It's a nice piece. I was looking for the pulegoso style and this was the one that I could afford. Others were very expensive like Carlo Scarpa pieces.

Thank you all,

I will put it in the display cabinet or on the glass table. If it is Seguso does anyone know which Seguso? My other peice is Archimedes Seguso and it would be nice if both peices were by him.

The colour when the light hits it is outstanding.

Believe it is Archimedes. I can't locate the other example I had online. Try svazzo.com and look there. I think he has a piece. The other, I simply can't find. Sorry.

HI Missc

Looked at svazzo.com and they have one very similar and they also have another bowl we were given and that is Seguso as well.

Thanks for the link and help.
