Great Little Elephant
« on: February 07, 2009, 05:13:40 AM »
Does anyone recognize this elephant? He is 4" to the top of the trunk. The lattimo is tinged with blue. I've been looking at Murano elephants for a couple of days now, but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

One of the best books on Italian glass animals~ Animals in Glass. A Murano Bestiary ~ Canal & Stamperia Editrice ISBN 88  86502  56  7 in this book you will see the same tequnique used by Ercole  Barovier in the 30s and by Fulvio Bianconi in the 50s if you like glass animals this in my opinion is the best book you can have .jp Loads of Elies . :chky:

Thank, johnphillip. I have been looking for the book for a while now. It is hard to find. You are lucky to have it. The elephant has a Barovier look to it, but I'm skittish about attributing it without some official word on the design. I love the Murano animals, but they can be so difficult to attribute correctly!

YEE HA! I just bought one.  :chky: Amazon.com had three available. I would not have looked if you hadn't said something, johnphillip. There are two more still available if anyone is interested. Now if I can only get the book on Ercole Barovier, I will have all my dream books. (The Barovier book sold for less than half its value on eBay a few months ago and I missed it. Rats.)
