Barovier Bowl? Help needed please.
« on: February 21, 2009, 01:24:25 PM »
Hello there, I hope some kind person can help me with this one, looks very much like barovier to me with gold inclusions, the bowl is 3-4 inches in height and probably about 7 inches wide. May be wrong but it would be lovely to be right just once! Would much appreciate any info re maker and age, many thanks, Gill
Sorry for poor quality pictures, the good ones I took wouldn't load, must learn how to make smaller!

Your bowl looks like a cordonato d'oro ashtray. The color, prunts, and style looks like it was made by Barovier & Toso. Two other Murano companies, maybe more, have made cordonato d'oro style glass, but to me your glass looks like BT.

I looked in my Marina Barovier book for a date on cordonato d'oro. There is a vase that is dated 1950. If I remember correctly, the dates I've seen for the ashtrays are 1950s. The prunts add a lot of character to your glass. It is a very nice find.
