Now that's a price and a half!  It jumped over £2000 in the last couple of minutes....

I'm not "seriously knowledgeable" on these weights, but from browsing books and old sales catalogues, online auctions and from chatting to various other collectors, I offer the following comments:

19th century Saint Louis.
Concentric rows not of the neatest setting, but good.
(Super-)Magnum size is very rare.

I am a bit surprised that some of the later bidders had seemingly not noticed the period of bidding, for a day or so, when one bidder either withdrew or was withdrawn but had pushed the high bid up to the eventual winning amount.

I imagine that had this weight been sold 10 years ago through somewhere like Sotheby's New York, it could easily have reached a much higher price.

SL indeed - very nice weight, first one of that size I've seen on eBay.

I wonder how many BIN requests they got?

Hi Lothar

BIN = Buy It Now. It is quite common that if someone spots a valuable weight started at a low price, then they ask if there is a Buy It Now price, or even make an offer, hoping to get a bargain. It rarely works, but a very nice Bacchus which I planned to go up to £2500 for vanished from eBay with 2 days still to go, when only at £30.00; I fear the seller (a UK based antique dealer) accepted a few hundred pounds for it - maybe less.
