waterlilly bowl with silver overlay ID?
« on: March 15, 2009, 11:56:02 AM »
This waterlilly bowl looks Art Nouveau to me. Size 6cm high, 12cm diameter. The silver overlay on the transparent glass body covers the petals inside and out and is (to my knowledge) thicker than when silver is used for ornamental reasons e.g. flowers or animals on a coloured body. The pontil is polished so you can see the thickness of the silver overlay. But there is no signature or label of any kind.

Can anyone tell me where it was made?

thanks

waterlilly silver overlay bowl; Art Nouveau? ID

I think I have already tried to find out something about this bowl earlier without success. Perhaps now someone can help  :-[

The bowl measures 6cm in height and has a diameter of 12cm. The petals are as irregular as with a flower which makes us think of Art Nouveau. The bottom is polished where the pontil mark would be. And there one can see how thick the silver overlay on the outside of the petals is (compared to other applications of silver inside or on the surface of glass objects that I have come across). We'd love to know where the bowl was made and when. My camera unfortunately makes images larger than the board's max. of 125KB so look into my facebook album:

Christian I've merged your last post with your earlier one. It can be confusing if we have the same item posted by the same person more than once, so rather than repost an item you should update the earlier topic if it's had no replies, but not more often than monthly please.

To find your earlier posts you can either use the Search function of the board, or look in your Profile page where you'll find a link at the bottom to a list of your previous posts.

Thanks Anne. I'm sorry to create more work than necessary! I'm getting the knack of this wonderful homepage gradually.
