Large white glass bowl with figures - Bohemian?
« on: March 15, 2009, 05:42:38 PM »
Hi,
I purchased this large 10" diameter bowl from a bric a brac shop yesterday. The bowl is made in a semi opaque white and has a series of old Grecian type figures arranged around the outside. It's in very good condition with just the usual age related light scratches on base edge. I really like it, it really feels well made. Anyone have any ideas on who might have made it. It has a raised inner and a polished pontil. Might it be Bohemian?
Thanks,
Bryn

Thanks Christine, I had not thought about it being "local". But might be I suppose.

Bryn :)

Thanks Ivo,
I was thinking along those lines myself, you often see those tango orange vases with applied black figures which are thought to be Czech in origen. Loetz would be totally out of the question would it? :-\
Thanks,
Bryn

Yes Bryn, Loetz would be completely out of the question. We see this model regularly in clear with an iridized finish and a black line along the rim.  I suspect Kralik may have something to do with it - but you can never be sure of these things.

Thanks again Ivo,
Shame about it not being Loetz though
My wife loves it and thinks it would look fantastic lit up in a modern minimalist decor house. Unfortunately our's is 100 years old and far far from minimalist and so it will have to go. Not yet though, something else will have to go first and I don't mean the wife!!.
