Archimedes Seguso Pink Lamp
« on: March 17, 2009, 09:40:57 PM »
Another item from our trip to Tasmania. I found this in a market stall that specialised in jewelery and clothes. Not one of his best looking lamps but I am happy with this (for the moment) and only paid $US30 for it. Assuming of course that it is one of his?

The sticker is one of A Seguso that was used from the 1950s probably into the 1970s. I can't tell with certainty whether the glass is pink alabastro or opalino. It looks more like alabastro to me.

Just looked it up Anita and found a peice for sale which is described as:

Cedenese Opalino, Alabastro pink bowl. What does this mean? can it be both techniques?

This is the advert. http://www.rubylane.com/shops/murano-glass/ilist/,cs=Glass:Cenedese+Pink+Alabastro+Bowl,id=1.3.html

I will look up what they mean.

I think the bowl in the link is opalino. Opalino and alabastro are two different types of glass. Alabastro is made to resemble alabaster rock. I have a few pieces of it. The glass, though smooth, looks grainy inside. Alabastro is more opaque than opalino. Alabastro is a thick, sticky glass that tends to crack, especially when cased. So alabastro is usually not cased. Opalino often is. Hope this helps. Try googling Archimede Seguso alabastro and you should see a few examples.
