Large green pressed glass vase - ID = Ząbkowice
« on: April 06, 2009, 01:12:38 AM »
Large moss green vase, pressed, indented base not as deep as typical SU birdbath type. Very similar in many ways to the vase shown on the right here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-1981 (I have same vase in blue so have looked at them side by side.)

Stands 208mm tall, and is 115mm diameter across the top.

Have discussed this with Marcus and we don't feel they are Sklo Union production, and are tending towards possibly being Polish. Can anyone confirm, deny, add any more to the discussion please?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Hi Anne

We've been all round the houses on this one a couple of years back.

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,9360.0.html

The colours don't match any of the SU or other Czech factories that I know about.  Don't know enough about Scandi glass to comment with any seriousness.

Maybe Jindrich has an idea?

Chris

I never seen this piece, it is probably not Czech. Check Eastern Germany or Poland.

Most of the known DDR glass that I own is by Lausitzer or Sachsenglas and is clear / flint.

My only coloured pieces are in a bright amber, bright green and purple.  Standard colours, so not much help there, then.   :(

And not surprising, since both companies produced in those colours as VLG and Walther until WW2.

Hi Chris, mine's not quite the same as yours... yours has a square within a square, mine has a sort of depression made by shallow triangles - like a shallow inverted pyramid if you follow me - you can see it best on the two middle pics in my first post.

The bases on yours and mine look the same, so I'm guessing they could be from the same stable, but not Czech (thanks Jindrich for adding your confirmation also)  if neither Marcus nor Jindrich think Czech then it's a safe bet to say they're not. :)

I do suspect they may have come from the same stable as the other heavy mystery vase we've discussed here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,22735.0.html

Oops, sorry!
Yes I see the difference now.  Same basic design, but different detail.
The eyes aren't what they were.  Must try and give up the meths...

Hi,

I believe this might be Polish...  it looks very much like a vase in the 1971 Ząbkowice catalogue(scroll down to page 33):    here.
