Identification request, Small delicate glass measures?
« on: April 15, 2009, 07:23:08 PM »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about these 2 small glass items please? I am having difficulty describing them as they are too small, light, and delicate to be vases. I was thinking maybe they could be medicine or drinks measures, infact they even look like the coloured glass canes that are used in paperweights which have been blown into, if thats possible? But really have no idea. Has anyone come across anything like this before? They were in amongst a tray of glassware that i bought at auction today.
Measurements just over 4" high, base just over 1" across. Thin, very light fragile glass.
Thankyou,
Janet.

hi Janet,

likely lampwork from Lauscha in Thuringia/Germany and though very light i´d still go
for vases.
if you have a search on ebay.de with ´Lauscha´ or ´Fadenglas´ (my apologies - i´ve
not been able to find a translation for that term) you´ll surely find similar items...

Hi Dirk,

Thankyou very much for your help! The link you gave is really interesting. Do you have any idea how old they may be? Are they pre ww2?

Kind regards,
Janet.

hi Janet,
these things were made over a long period i think. giving a date will rather
be a guess, but considering their shape i´d say post wwii - 50´s or 60´s.
