Topic: ID Confirmation Please - Stevens & Williams??

I purchased this many years ago at an estate auction. After lots of time and research I located an English glass web site that had the exact same vase with the same marking on the underside and it was identified as Stevens & Williams from the 1890's. It is approx 4.5 inches in diameter. I am getting ready to sell it and am interested in knowing if this attribution and time frame are correct? Any other information regarding designer etc would also be appreciated.

The no on the base of your item was for a design registered by Stevens & Williams of Brierly Hill Glassworks  on 6 September 1886. Note the date is that of the design registration, designs may have been made for many years AFTER the registered date.

I think I am right in thinking that the Stevens & Williams' records are mostly lost, so probably no info on how long this was produced - style-wise I would say no more than 10 years, if that

Your rose bowl is pictured in Gulliver's Victorian decorative glass and is part of the Jewel range. A bubble of glass was machine threaded, cased in another layer and then blown into a 16-rib mould. Gulliver gives it a value of £35-45 in 2002, which seems to be toward the lower end of the items in his book, so who knows.

Stevens and Williams records/description books are on long term loan to Broadfield House Glass Museum - not 'mostly lost' as you thought Christine, which I hope is good news to you

Your description is good , but doesn't make it clear to readers that the 'jewels' produced are air-trap bubbles within the rib.

Some company's are mostly lost I think, aren't they, I'm obviously being confused as usual :spls:  :huh: 

I was precising what Gulliver said, never seen Jewel in the "flesh" so wsn't sure if they were bubbles.
