Bowl and stand - Was told this is English and Fredrikson?
« on: April 23, 2009, 01:59:43 AM »
Hi I bought this bowl stand on a trip to buy Murano glass. Got a bit carried away with this piece and bought it. The trader said it was Fredrikson (I think).

It is 240mm (9.5") wide and 120mm (4.75") high inc stand.

Does anyone know what it is?

regards

Ardy

Well I shouldnt denigrate him too much, he most probably said Davidson and I didnt remember him correctly. Nothing out of the ordinary for me.

Is this glass worth anything? I am assuming not, as the whole world of English glass collectors know about it.

It looks good with flowers in it although the 'flower dome' doesnt match the rest of it.

It will most probably be my only English glass purchase.

It's not worth an awful lot; too heavy to send far. What you really need to look for is orange cloud: rare and found almost exclusively in Australia.  I think what you have may be a 34SD, hard to tell without a profile. This was a two-piece set with a usually matching dome and without a plinth. What you do have is three pieces of Davidson that may or may not have been purchased together. In reality who knows how the retailers sold them.

All three pieces makes it more attractive than having a piece missing though, and whilst Christine says not worth an awful lot, a quick scan of eBay shows listings for cloudglass flower sets in the £30-£50 range, so better than a slap on the nose with a wet fish. ;)

Thank you all team English!

I will most certainly NOT be buying anymore English glass. I seem to have more luck with Murano and I greatly prefer the look of it.

Christine and Anne - No please dont take offence, just take all of that stuff that you want.

I'm back off to the Murano board where I think I belong. It's complex enough without adding to the width of the issue.
