scandinavian knobbly glass final try
« on: April 29, 2009, 02:12:33 PM »
Hello everyone!

I have had difficulty posting my images on this site. Apologies for any confusion. It is hopefully resolved now.

I have been collecting glass for a few months and am keen to learn as much as possible about different glass items, whether they be Scandinavian, Murano or Czech.

Would any member have a clue what this vase is, it looks to be Scandinavian to me but I will be pleased to learn more. It is under six inches tall, has a smooth flat base and a regular pulled pattern repeated round the glass,

thx,

bOBA

That one is by Aseda from Sweden - also available in red....

Thx Ivo, your reply looks very accurate indeed!

I think the red and white version looks good too. There may be other colours you think? Would you have a year of production in mind?

The Aseda pieces I have generally seen before did not look a lot like this, this style seems to me a bit of a step away from their usual output but I may not have seen enough to fully appreciate their ranges. Would you agree?

I am sure of your ID though!

From reading other postings I know you have experience in a few areas of glass. In passing would you be able to recommend a good book on the history of the Skrdlovice glass company?

thanks again for the firm ID, I am more relaxed now!

Just had a quick look at ebay and it is suggested that a knobbly range by Bo Borgstrom came out in 1960... that this may be a part of?

Yes indeed - Bo Bergstom from the sixties is my understanding.

For Skrdlovice I use a well thumbed company catalogue from 1989; I'm not aware there is a book out which covers it in as much detail as you'd like.  Mark Hill's book (which I like!) is listing designers rather than manufacturers;  Marcus's book I have not seen anywhere at all but I understand it covers pressed glass only.
