Topic: Vaseline Dish ID: Fenton Basket Weave with Open Edge

just wondering if anybody can help me in identifying a vaseline glass dish I bought at a house sale a few years ago.

It is approx 18 cm diameter and 5 cm to the top of the scalloped edge.

The bottom part is pressed in a basket weave pattern, with the scalloped, open sides in an opalescent glass that has a soft appearance, as if was slightly melted after pressing. The bottom part also has an opalescent patch. There are no identifying marks or serial numbers.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

It looks like Fenton's Basket Weave with Open Edge (aka Open Edge aka Fenton's Basket). The color is their topaz opalescent. Approx date of manufacture - 1930s. Maker is the Fenton Art Glass Company of Williamstown, WVa.

Fenton and others exported a huge amount of Carnival Glass into the UK during the early 1900s. Also to Australia.

There's a fair sprinkling of depression glass plus later glass from the DG makers.

Here are just a few of the US companies advertising in the British Pottery Gazette ads (circa 1905 - 1930):

1. Jefferson Glass of WVa were advertising their Krys-tol (through Pratt's agency)

2. Imperial  were advertising Carnival through Markt.

3. United States Glass Co., were advertising (I think they had their own agency).

4. The British American Glass Co. were advertising (own showrooms in Hatton gardens).

5. The National Glass Co., were advertising the Chippendale range and Fenton Carnival.

I hope this helps to add to the bigger picture.
