"Bohemia Glass" label on Czech Figurine
« on: May 17, 2009, 03:09:03 PM »
Hi!

I have been visiting a little figurine at a local shop that has the same label as a current ebay store listing - but I was hoping to find a little more about the origin of the label before I buy the piece. Or not. The label looks like the image below.

and it's on a highly detailed figure of a drummer .... the base is 'end of day' glass. Can anyone provide insight as to the maker?

Many thanks -

Kelli

Hi Kelli is this the image from eBay or your own from the shop? If from eBay can you post a link to the item and we'll remove the image as the copyright belongs to the seller. Thank you. :)

Ohhh btw I think the letters on the label might be ZBS?

Until administrative issues will be solved  I will tell you that the label means glassworks ZBS - Zeleznobrodske sklo, and country destination Czech republic means that this piece was fabricated from 1993 up to now. Before ZBS used label with Czechoslovakia.

Zelezny Brod is small town in northern Bohemia where is located secondary glass making school .
Famous teachers were profs Cerny, Brychta, Klinger - famous graduate is Frantisek Vizner, for example.

Jindrich, thank you very much!! I went this morning to the shop and was able to buy this piece, labeled as shown. I'm so glad he was still there on the shelf! I was fascinated with the detail on the face, hands and drum....and now I can say that I know for sure that it was produced sometime after 1993 in Zelezny Brod. I really appreciate your help. :)
Here are photos of my Drummer figurine.

Jindrich - just caught it, my piece is labeled Made in Czechoslovakia so I will say that it was pre-1993. Thanks again!

This musician is really an old one, I am not absolutely sure but I hope that this "brass orchestra" set has appeared in 1961 first time. I must check resources and I will as soon as I will have more time.

Thank you Anne for help with English. Please remove the link to zeleznybrod, seems that this page is infected, after clicking tries to install spyware.

Jindrich, I've removed both the links from the topic for you, thanks for the heads up.

Is this one of the Brychta figures? I just love him, what a great find Kelli!
