Real or Fake Venini?
« on: May 17, 2009, 11:40:30 PM »
This vase was recently on EBAY until the seller ended it early...it was signed Venini on the base. Is it fake or real? The reason I'm asking? I have a similar (not signed) in green...

Thanx!

It's not in Catalogue Raisonne that I could see, and the signature doesn't conform to any of the signature styles in Heiremans, Themes and Variations. It doesn't look right to me, so I'd have to see very solid evidence in order to be convinced that it was Venini.

How does it look and feel? Do you think it feels or looks like Venini quality?

Italian glass isn't my strong suit....I was hoping one of the experts that occasionally visit could verify it's authenticity...

It does not look right to me, and neither does the signature.... IMHO, especially the use of the "@"

It doesn't look like a Venini vase or a Venini signature. So I would say forged.

Blair did you ask to use the seller's images? If not, can you provide a link to the sale and we'll remove the pictures as per board guidelines on copyright images. Thanks. :)

I have the feeling that since the seller described the vase as murrina that he/she was operating outside the comfort zone. Someone may have written to let the seller know. The vase is nice. It's sad to see the base scratched like that. The sig doesn't look like any of the old or new Venini sigs I have seen. I have checked a bit, because the new sigs are different than the old. I couldn't find an example that is like this one.
