Is this Andromeda by Jan Beranek for Skrdlovice
« on: May 24, 2009, 02:18:31 PM »
Is this an Andromeda vase designed by Jan Beranek for Skrdlovice? It is quite large, 11.5 inches or 29 centimeters. The walls seem 'straiter' or less curved top and bottom than others I have seen with this attribution.

Thanks, John.

Hi John,
perhaps Mark Hill should point us where his attribution is comming from - perhaps CGR.
Skrdlovice pattern book shows in 1964 only "Andromeda" candlestick 6447 - height 10 cm. Pattern "Andromeda" therefore should be older - before 1960 becouse since 1960 was designed as a new pattern only this canldestick.

Your piece is simmilar to one published in Mark's "Hi Slo Lo Sklo" as Andromeda pattern.  Very simmilar spiral patern had been made aslo in Chribska, however.

Nice vase,
Ive got 2, one at 10 inches , one at 7 1/2 inches.
I thought Skrdlovice, but only because of Marks book.

Thank you Jindrich and Andy, interesting, a possible loose end. Seems like they were made in lots of sizes then, yet more to collect (or think about collecting).

John.

Yes, that red (and amber) one looked good, sold by a member of this forum too (not me), so an excellent pedigree!

Andy - that eBay red one is one from pieces I am not sure that came from Skrdlovice. The screw was too tight.
I have no another proof that "Andromeda" looks like picture published in Mark's book.

Like in former BBC, two indenpendand resources required until published...

Well,
CGR 1966/4 was probably Marks's source  :) - it is Andromeda.
It must be noted that Andromeda design came from late 50ties - not from 1964 - after 1960 is documented only candlestick 6447.
