Help w/ ID of unusual paperweight
« on: May 27, 2009, 01:54:57 AM »
I've asked aroung and gotten wildly different opinions on this piece. I do apologize for the wretched photos, but I'm hoping you can get an idea from them of the large sulphide cat sitting on a pink and yellow cushion. Can anybody help me with an ID? thanks so much.

Looks like a faceted Bohemian sulphide to me, dated 20th century between the wars.

Cool. Thanks. Can you suggest any books or sites with images of similar pieces?

Best book I can recommend is 'Art Deco' by 'Von Brackel'. It has loads of pictures of Bohemian weights, many of which are faceted sulphides like yours.
I don't have it handy at the moment so It's possible that the title I gave is incomplete and the author's last name misspelled.
If so, another member will post any necessary corrections :)

I think the book you want is Peter von Brackel's "Paperweights - Historicism, Art Nouveau, Art Deco" published by Schiffer - ISBN 0764310526.
