Having seen a real candlewax candleholders and ashtray, and a marked Italian candlewax vase, it seemed to me that the Italian pieces were of inferior quality and feel.

Mine wobbles very badly on it's base, so I am inclined to agree.
I have also noticed that the well on the base is different, it is scooped out more, (rounded rather than flat) I will try to get another picture to show that.

Thank you everyone for all your comments so far

Hi,

This mould appears to have been licensed for manufacture in Italy, possibly when the Sklo Union factories were trying to modernise with Italian manufacturing equipment. A little odd, but the original Czech version was still being manufactured in 1983.

Obviously the vase was also produced in France:

Now let´s wait for one to turn up with a ´Made in Taiwan´-label.  ;D

It might be worth contacting Rastel to find out when they produced these and if they marked the glass, cannot have been very long ago. Was it lead or soda? Did they do any other design? Currently they only offer barware. http://www.rastal.de/

They also ´adopted´ the spiral charger design BTW.

I am sure that they would have licensed the design. Only they can tell you.

Well let's try to make the ID....

The one marked Italy is a Borgonovo item.
Named : Iris

On a 77/78 trade catalogue there are two sizes: 180mm and 230mm
The 180mm weight is 700gr
The 230mm weight is 1240gr

Now as I sentenced for the Fidenza vase on another thread....I'm pretty sure...the Italian one is a copy.....no license I suppose.

Regards

Gab

That is very close to the assumed design date of 1974 and both sizes were still in Czech catalogue in 1983 so these were not the moulds used in CZ, but I think it is quite possible that other moulds were sold to Borgonova. Height and weight matching for 2 sizes does make a copy seem unlikely.
