Hi All,

I would dearly appreciate some help with this monstrous, rugby ball vase, please. It is blow-moulded with an applied ring of clear glass around the rim and laced with gold-leaf.
As the title states, 3.4kg in weight, 5 3/4" in height, 13" long and 6" deep.
Ground depressed pontil and polished flattened base.
No signature.

TIA,
Della

Della, your 3rd image didn't upload correctly, can you add it to a reply and I'll sort it out for you please?

BTW I just spotted this link in another reply and there are similarities to your vase: http://www.artiusglass.co.uk/id1.html - may be worth checking with them?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

I still have this vase nearly 7 years after this original post. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas? I will repost the photos as they are not showing up for me.

Hi Della,

I think these have possibly been ID as by Charlie Meaker, from memory there are a couple of other similar pieces on the board that have cropped up over the last year or so....

Hope this helps.  :)

Bless ya, Sue  :D

Iain was getting it out of the box and was totally shocked at the weight of it. It is now out of the way on top of the display cupboard. It hasn't seen the light of day since I moved to my first pub in 2010  ::) Now we are settled in our own home, the glass is out! I didn't know I had sooooooooo much. 8)

I have a very large conical bottle in the same design.  :)
Charlie Meaker did train at IoWSG for a while, I assume that was where he learned how to work with silver foil, I don't know where it was he made these though.
He ended up being the director of a large Scandanavian glass company, working outside the uk, but sadly, he is no longer with us. He died not long ago.

The blue in these pieces is not one that was used at IoWSG.
I do like these pieces. Bold and early British Studio glass, by a significant maker. 8) 8) 8)

(It's fun finding stuff you've forgotten about, and seeing it with new eyes, isn't it?  :-* )
