This has to be the strangest thing. 12 inches tall, loaded with murrine, a cobalt threading, silvery irrid. the bottom part solid, the top hollow. And a strange journey. A TJMAXX item, put on clearance and winding up in one of my favorite shops at such a cheap price I had to get it to share with you. Any comments are more than welcome. Terry

Uh Oh ! The Chinese are now being creative ??
I knew it would happen sooner or later but looks like sooner.
Does it need to have a purpose Terry ?
Could you view it as just an Art Object ?
Or you you feel it should have a purpose ?

So much Art Glass originally had a purpose (Vases !!) but we generally accept that they are now just decor items or simply  ........Art.

It's wonderful Terry! I couldn't have resisted it either. Plonk it somewhere unusual - in your flowerbeds a la Chihuly in Kew, in with your potted plants in the bathroom if you don't want to put it outside. Use it as a table decoration, float in in your bath, put it in the corner of a staircase, on your kitchen windowsill, put it on top of your Christmas tree... :D:D:D

PS It may have a heavy base, but DON'T use it as a punch-bag!

Wonderful ideas Sue, thank you. I had to laugh however at the suggestion of putting it on top of my Christmas tree. The first question that popped into my head was "HOW". And just what kind of tree does a glass nut have, well mine is considered very weird. Mine is white and made of wire I suppose you could say. No needles, just bare branches. Actually they were made to adorn the outside. I cover it with glass ornaments, but not just glass balls. The ornaments have to be something, teddy bears, Santas, wreaths, candy, etc. I even have an ice cream cone. To see the face of a small child when they see it is wonderful. It is a sight. Oh my I just thought, glass oranaments, another whole field. Terry

No not quite like your unknown thingy Anne which has no decoration, no color and a void which is hard to ignore and which one feels should be enclosing something to give its form meaning.
I would still like to see it with a small lit candle in the middle which may produce some interesting light effects ! Or at least with plant like an ornamental ivy escaping it's clutches.

Terry's thingy is I presume hollow but looks like it has no hole from which to access that void. The external decoration is sufficient along with it's form and needs nothing further. Just siting it well will show it's glory and Sue's suggestions are great for that. Now we know where you keep some of your glass Sue when the shelves are full !!!

:oops::oops: ...on top of the kitchen cupboards, on top of the dresser, on the loo cistern lid, every window ledge, the little ledge of the dado bit in the bathroom, the little ledge 1.5 feet below the ceiling in the vestibule, the edge of the bath, on top of the desks, in the desks, on mantlepieces, on chests of drawers, on top of bookcases....

:D There's none on top of the piano :D !!!!
PS, edited to add:-
...or the cat box!

If I had Terry's wonderful thing I'd get a pot of cacti to plant it in.

It's not big enough to take a candle or a plant Peter!  The hole is only the span of my hand - less than 4".

When I said like mine, I was referring to this bit of your earlier post about things having a purpose or just being art:

rather than comparing my odd thing with Terry's odd thing stylistically. :)
