The Laurel and Hardy of Bagley Carnival uranium glass butter dishes. Laurel is marked with the registration number 849118 and has a much lower, less ridged lid, a smooth knob and less glass in the base section. Hardy has no mark, a high deeply ridged lid with a wider exterior lip, a ridged knob and more glass. The shades of green also appear slightly different, with Laurel being slightly more blue. All other dimensions are the same. Laurel is the one shown in Angela's book as being in the 1953 catalogue. I assume that Hardy is the older of the two. Has anyone noticed any other variations in Carnival? My two cheese dishes, one marked and one unmarked, only have a slight shade variation

Just to add, when I look again the unmarked cheese dish is slightly larger and bulkier than the marked one

Christine — Have you tested them with a UV lamp?

... and thanks for getting me confused, really, honestly, as it is pleasing to see the accurate use of terminology with neither apology nor explanation.

Bernard I always test everything with a UV lamp. I don't buy Bagley unless it's uranium. I just thought Laurel and Hardy was a nice analogy for a fat one and a thin one that might raise a smile - sorry if I've confused

Christine — No, I was referring to "Carnival", the pattern name.   I didn't know you bought only Bagley uranium green — I'll buy either version, especially when considering a rarity, like the Zimmerman "Cabbage" lamp.

Well I'd probably buy a rarity in any colour if I found it cheap, but not to keep. (So £6.50 was good for my Tulip lamp, looks a treat with a low energy candle bulb in.  )

I kind of assumed that anyone that had enough interest in Bagley to respond would know about Carnival (first mention should have had a cap. C)
