odd green glass mug?? - ID = Kumela handled dipper
« on: June 09, 2009, 12:55:19 PM »
Hi there
One of my impulse car boot buys, just because it was a bit odd looking (and cheap 50p). Green mug? with applied clear glass handle, thought it may be a shaving mug as the handle is straight out, hard to drink out of and no spout for pouring..
It has a ground and polished (dimple) pontil mark on the base. Quite weighty for size 9.5 in diameter at widest, 11.5cms in height, 630g
no signiature or markings, base has quite a bit of age wear so wouldnt think its brand new
any guesses??

Pretty sure this is Scandinavian....can't think which company though.   I had one in brown once.  And that's all I can tell you!   ::) :)

sometimes they can take a wee while but ive got it at last, I treated myself this morning to myself Leslie Pina's Fire & Sea at a fair near Bury st Edmunds, and there it is page 198 "Kumela handled dippers" from Finland, stickered in the book also so a definate ID.  Ijust had a mad moment because i thought it had been sold/gone to charity shop but then i found it  ;D
Case solved it would seem

It's designed by Sirkku Kumela-Lehtonen, in production 1960-76 by Kumela.
